Look at real photos of the baker's own work first. Then check four things: whether the style matches yours, whether the date is open, how the cake gets to your venue, and whether you can talk to the person who will actually bake it.

A small home bakery works well if you like a personal process. At Blushy Bakery you plan the cake in a conversation with Irina, and she shows you photos of similar cakes she has made. Most of her wedding cakes are finished by hand in buttercream, with vintage piping, pearl borders, ruffles and garlands, or a clean white cake with fresh roses.

Ask every baker about allergies too. Our kitchen uses wheat, eggs, milk and nuts, so we cannot promise an allergen-free cake, but we will tell you honestly what we can do.

Photos are welcome as inspiration. Every design is made in our own hand, so your cake will be inspired by your photo rather than copied from it. We then talk through size, flavour, colours and finish.

Wedding cakes are sized to your guest count. Tell us how many guests you expect and whether you will also have a dessert table, and we suggest the size.

Many couples order a slightly smaller cake when there is a dessert table too. Macarons, cream horns and dessert cups in your colours give guests a choice and make a nice backdrop for photos.

What is a good timeline for ordering?

We need at least one week's notice for any order. For a wedding, message as soon as you have your date, because popular weekends fill up first.

Before you book, ask your venue about its outside-baker policy and any cake-cutting fee. Then tell us the venue and set-up time so pickup or delivery can be planned.
